SUBJECT CHOICE GUIDANCE
Helping Grade 9 students choose subjects that keep the right career options open
Why subject choice is so important

It shapes the future
The right subjects directly impact study options and careers later on. The subjects your child chooses directly determine what university programmes they can apply to later on.

It keeps the right doors open
Dropping subjects like Mathematics can limit access to careers such as engineering, medicine and science, often before students fully understand their options.

It leads to confident and informed choices
We guide students to choose subjects that align with their strengths, interests, values and long-term goals so they keep the right opportunities open.
What you will walk away with
Clear understanding of your child's strengths, interests, unique personality traits and values
Subject recommendations that truly align with who they are
A personalised career roadmap
University and study information
Reduced stress for both you and your child
What makes my approach different
Personalised, not generic
Your child receives recommendations tailored specifically to them, not generic online advice.

Professional assessments you can trust
Backed by psychometric tools designed for South African students.
Clarity, not just suggestions
The feedback session goes beyond a list of suggested subjects. It explains the reasoning behind each recommendation, maps those subjects to realistic career pathways, and gives your child something most teenagers lack going into Grade 10, genuine confidence in their choices.

What if my child has no idea what career they might want?

This is completely normal in Grade 9 and is exactly what the process helps with. The assessments reveal strengths and interests your child may not have been able to articulate on their own, which makes career direction much clearer.
Shouldn't they just pick the subjects they are strongest at?
Choosing subjects based on current strengths can be misleading.
Strength doesn't always mean suitability
A student may perform well because a subject has been easy so far, not because they have a genuine aptitude or natural interest. From Grade 10, difficulty can increase and subjects that once felt easy can become a struggle.
Performance can be driven by memorisation, not understanding.
Some students achieve good marks because they are strong at memorising content. This can create the impression that a subject is a natural fit, even when it does not align with their natural strengths or thinking style.
Interest and engagement matter more long-term
A student can be capable in several subjects but only truly engaged in some. That engagement is what drives sustained performance. In many cases, a moderately strong but interested student will outperform one who is capable but disengaged.
